2018 book club review

We started our little book club back in January of '18 and have met as a group almost every other month since. Each meeting we all put in entries for the book we want to read next and the person that is hosting book club draws the pick out of a hat. Book club has been so much more fun than we thought and even though our husbands call it 'wine club' we realistically can't wait to meet up and discuss the books together.

Here is a round up of the books we read and discussed in 2018. For 2019, we plan on doing a full review of each book after our book clubs and are going to do a "virtual book club" with our February book Little Fires Everywhere!

This was our very first book club pick! It was so good we couldn't put it down! It tells the story of a missing girl through many narratives, with many twists and turns. The end is shocking!

We can't really review this book because no one actually finished it. We all had read Gone Girl and thought we should try another Gillian Flynn book but we were gravely disappointed. The first few chapters and the story surrounded a girl that as a child witnessed her brother murder and chop up her whole family. As she revisits her past, the question arises on if her brother really committed the murders.

This book made us immediately want to read all the Colleen Hoover books. I think we both finished this book in less than 2 days. After a chance encounter, Lily falls deeply in love with a neurosurgeon. Their relationship starts to get tumultuous and Atlas, Lily's first love reappears and is a link to her past. It was such a great story and the suspense would not allow you to put the book down.

I think the whole book club agreed this was one of our favorite books this year. This follows the story of two sisters living in France, which was occupied by the Germans during World World II. One sister helped hide Jewish children and one made the trek through the Pyrenees Mountains to help escape downed British airmen. We were both sobbing at the end of the book, but it was so good... a must read!

Only Sam read this book. The plan was to all read the book and then go watch the movie in theaters. The movie followed the book really closely, but Sam actually liked the movie better. It really brought to life how rich the family was. Karissa has full plans to read this in 2019 after seeing the movie!

We both loved this book. Would be the perfect summer beach read about a summer wedding and murder in Nantucket (this book made us both want to visit ASAP). We were slightly disappointed by the ending because it left so much hanging... but, this made it perfect for book club because we could discuss what we thought happened!

The was the last book we read for our December novel. Some of us had started the show and we had to give Gillian Flynn another try. LOVED this book. Yes, it was pretty dark and twisted. As part of book club we watched the last episode of the new HBO Show. We all thought the show was pretty well cast especially Adora, the mother in the novel. Sharp Objects follows Camille, a journalist that has to go back to her small town to write a story about a string of murders. We both agreed the book is much more intense than the show!

As you can tell, we like to pick books with lots of twists and turns that we can't put down! Did you read any of these books? If so, comment your opinion because we would love to hear! Currently taking recommendations for what books we should read in 2019 for each book club and we plan to do a book a month this year. We can't wait for our virtual book club... we will discuss our thoughts and opinions on the book and you can tell us what you thought!
