table talk

I just got a La Creuset dutch oven for a bridal shower gift and I don't know what to make in it. I know you both have one, what are your favorite recipes?

Sam: I leave mine out on the stove for decoration, so I find myself making everything in it, especially anything that is a one pot recipe! My La Creuset is so easy to clean I never mind. Love this, this and this recipe. Dying to try this pot roast recipe from Half Baked Harvest, she always has the most flavorful recipes!

Karissa: I also use mine for almost everything-- mostly one pot stuff because it's easier to clean than my all-clad pot. Some of my favorites are this chili-mac and this one-pot spaghetti (read all the instructions because it shows instant pot instructions but can also be made on the stove)

What fashion trends do you not like or what should we avoid?

We certainly do not want to stop people by trying fun trends - to each their own! The only things we probably truly hate right now are newsboy caps. Stay tuned for a fun post where we ask our husbands if they are yay or nay to 2018 trends.

I want to start gardening/planting flowers this year, do you have any gardening advice?

Sam: I'm no garden expert, and I know nothing about what to do with seeds but i would wait for a flower flats sale at the end of April. You can get $10 flats full of annual flowers and plant them all around your house/condo. I like to get two different heights of flowers, but stick to one or two colors to keep things from looking mismatched. If you get any bulbs around Easter, wait until those plants die and then throw the bulbs in the ground. All my bulbs from last year came up this spring and it was so exciting! I would also recommend bumming plants off your relatives. Last year I got buckets of hostas from Zach's mom when she thinned out/divided her hostas and this year I am getting iris bulbs and hydrangeas from my mom.

Karissa: I actually have a black thumb... last year we bought and planted beautiful impatiens in white and red to line our front walk way, but didn't do that until probably May! I love plants that come back every year- we have the most beautiful peony plants-- and they're hard to kill, thankfully! This year I would love to have herb garden and lots of potted outdoor plants like this or this.

Can you share some cute short ideas that are NOT jean shorts?

Karissa: I was anti-jean shorts for the longest time.. now I love them, but also love a good classic chino like these. I'm also dying for a pair of high-waisted belted shorts like these or these! Also, how cute are these pompom shorts!?

Sam: I LOVE this pattern and style but I would wait for these to go on sale. I think fun shorts like these would pair wonderfully with a wedge heel and a tight tee shirt, maybe even a jean jacket on top. These Abercrombie shorts would go with everything and they come in 6 colors. Don't hate me but I love these camo shorts too.
