5 healthy goals for the new year

After the holidays I am always ready to start eating healthier! There is something about all that rich holiday food and wine that just makes me feel gross after a while. Here are some of the goals I have for 2018:

1. Drink a gallon of water a day. I got this amazing glass water bottle for Christmas that is 32 ounces, so I need to focus on drinking 4 of these day .

2. Try to cut out all processed and sugary snack foods. I am so bad at only craving sweet and salty snacks, so this will be a hard one for me. I usually snack on foods like sugary trail mix and banana chips, but I need to swap this out for actual bananas, RX bars, plain nuts, and veggies with almond butter. I started following @whole30recipes on instagram and they have a ton of great recipes and insta stories of snack ideas.

3. Stop hitting snooze! Zach's work schedule changes so we'll be up at the same time each day. If we both avoid hitting snooze we could make the most of our morning and walk Oslo and have breakfast together. Today was my first day doing this and I got into work so early I didn't know what to do with myself.

4. Cut out alcohol and caffiene. At least during January. This is more for some issues that I am having with my bladder, but it should be good for at least two weeks for a nice little detox. I may try and drink chai or green tea to help with caffeine headaches.

5. Start training for a dualthlon. Okay, this one is just me because Zach has no interest! I have done a few sprint triathlons but I was terrible at the swimming section in open water. This will be just a 1 mile run, 12-15 mile bike, and a 2-3 mile run at the end. I am totally out of shape for this so it will take some work to be able to run and hop on the bike right after. Hopefully doing one of these in May and July.

Throwback to my first triathlon in 2015. My supermom joined me!

I'll let you know how long this lasts and update you on our progress! Hopefully this makes us feel better and less sluggish. We will still indulge for events and are not going to be so strict with ourselves that we won't have any fun. You bet your bottom dollar that I will still be enjoying wine on occasion, just maybe not every #windownwednesday.
