In Ohio, even if the weather is not fall like, apple picking season jumps right up on you. We went to go apple picking last weekend, and of course we were already too late and missed Honeycrisp picking weekend so we got to pick Jonathan apples which have a much tarter taste.
The place we go has about 4 giant apple picking fields, a corn maze, pumpkin picking and a large barn where you can buy homemade beef jerky, peanut butter, cheese etc. AND they sell fresh donuts and apple cider out front. It is the total fall experience.
I made homemade apple sauce with the apples by throwing apples, sugar, water, and cinnamon in the crock pot for 4 hours on high and then blending smooth. It was delicious!
