key west
If you follow us on Instagram you probably know that Bradley and I recently visited Key West for a wedding! The hot Florida sun made for the perfect fall getaway. While we didn't do everythingggg Key West has to offer, we did do a lot of fun things! If you're looking for a fun trip to get a break from the cold weather, this is definitely the place!
Where We Ate:
The Waterfront Brewery- a cool brewery near the marina- so fun to look at the boats while we ate. This was definitely not my favorite meal of the trip, but it was still great! Would be a fun place to take kids because they had a small arcade in the back!
Fogartys - definitely not a place you would think to get a nice pasta, but I did and it was sooooo yummy! They also have a fun frozen drink selection which is perfect for those hot Key West days
Moondog - a new restaurant, that was absolutely adorable! We went for breakfast, I highly recommend the fresh squeezed OJ--yum!
915- a little on the fancier side, but really cute and VERY delicious! I had the shrimp fettuccine (and also a cone of French fries lol) and it was amazing!
Carolines Cafe - the perfect spot for lunch, they have so many different options on their menu from Cuban sandwiches to salads and burgers!
First Flight Brewery - this is actually where the wedding was! It was so cute and the food was soooo good, if we would have had more time I would have loved to go back and see what the actual menu has to offer!
Blue Heaven- OK, technically we didn't eat here but by far the coolest place to grab a drink! They have cats that roam around and sand around the bar. Plus, live music and chill vibes make it the perfect place! (I've heard the food is amazing too!)
The food stand @ Fort Zachary Taylor Beach- a great quick meal option when lounging by the beach!
What We Did:
The Beach at Fort Zachary Taylor - it's a rocky beach, and you have to pay to get in but it is absolutely gorgeous! Plus, there is a snack bar (that serves alcohol) so you don't have to leave for lunch!
The Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory - definitely not the coldest place, but soooo beautiful, filled with butterflies, turtles and even flamingos! Great place for gorgeous butterfly shots
The Key West Aquarium - this was a last minute decision for Brad and I, we had a few hours to kill before the airport and were done melting outside. It was pretty small but they had sharks and sea turtles (my fave!). Brad got to feed all the sharks with the 6 year olds...lol
Duval Street - filled with bars and restaurants, if you don't go to Duval Street- did you even go to Key West!?!
Sunset at Mallory Square - The most gorgeous view of the sunset you will ever see! Lots of fun street performers and vendors line the square- don't miss it!
Where we stayed:
The Chelsea House Hotel- great location and adorable rooms. Every room I saw was different, ours was pretty small (but totally fine for what we needed) but, my Brother-in-law/Sister-in-law had a much bigger room! The pool is small but we were the only people ever in it. And, the free breakfast is definitely a plus!
Tips:
Pack lots of sunscreen!- the sun is super hot in south Florida- even olive skinned people like me burn- you might even want to bring aloe products for when your husband doesn't listen to you and burns day 1!
Pack comfortable sandals-- we did so much walking during the trip. The island is only 2 miles by 4 miles (or something like that) so everything is walkable!!
I'll be dreaming of the ocean all winter long! Have you been to Key West!? What's your favorite thing to do!?
